Course Description

What is democracy? How does democracy emerge? Why are some countries democracies but not others? Why is authoritarianism persistent in some countries? These are some of the most enduring questions in political science. This course addresses these questions by examining the political science scholarship on regimes and regime transitions. This is an advanced course in political science, and some introductory courses on political philosophy or political science are required.
